How to Make an OHP Projector at Home: A DIY Guide
In todays digital age, projectors have become essential gear not only in offices and schools, but also in homes. They make our visuals big and bold, enabling us to watch movies, share photos, and deliver presentations with great impact.
Overhead projectors (OHPs), in particular, were once a popular tool in classrooms and meeting rooms. Although they are no longer the go-to technology for presenting, they still have value in certain settings. Fortunately, you can make an OHP projector at home inexpensively using easily sourced components. Heres how.
Materials Needed:
- A box (shoebox, pizza box, or similar size)
- A flashlight
- Clear plastic (from a transparency sheet or packaging)
- Tape or glue
- Scissors
- A marker
- A smartphone or tablet
Instructions:
1. Mark the position of the flashlight on the boxs bottom by tracing around it with a marker.
2. Cut a hole the same size as the flashlights diameter in the boxs bottom using a pair of scissors.
3. Cut a rectangle, about 8-10 inches wide and 10-12 inches long, from the clear plastic.
4. Tape or glue the plastic over the hole that you just made, ensuring that it is flush with the bottom of the box.
5. Turn on your smartphone or tablet, and open a white screen (picture, slide, or blank page). Place it face down on the plastic.
6. Turn on the flashlight, and place it in the hole in the bottom of the box. The light should shine upward onto the smartphone or tablet.
7. Adjust the focus by moving the smartphone or tablet back and forth until the picture is clear on the wall or screen.
8. Once you have focused the image, turn off the lights in the room, and adjust the brightness or contrast on your smartphone or tablet to the optimal setting.
Conclusion:
Now that you have made your OHP projector, you can experiment with different images and videos to see how it performs. You can even use it outdoors at night to show movies or slideshows. Although the image quality may not be as crisp as a commercial projector, the homemade version can be an inexpensive and fun alternative. Give it a try! |
