If youre interested in creating a sim pit of your own, using a projector can be a great way to get started. Here, well provide a step-by-step guide to help you set up your own projector-based sim pit.
Step 1: Choose your projector
The first step in creating a projector-based sim pit is to select the right projector for your needs. When choosing a projector, consider the following factors:
- Resolution: The higher the resolution, the sharper and more detailed the image will be.

For a sim pit, we recommend a projector with a resolution of at least 1080p, a brightness of at least 3000 lumens, a high contrast ratio, and a long lamp life.

Next, youll need to choose a screen to project your image onto. You can use a plain white wall if you dont want to invest in a dedicated screen, but for best results we recommend a high-quality projection screen.
When choosing a screen, consider factors such as material (usually white or gray), gain (the measure of how efficiently the screen reflects light back to the viewer), and size (make sure its large enough to fill your field of view).
Step 3: Position your projector
Once you have your projector and screen, its time to position your projector. The exact placement will depend on your room layout and the size of your screen and projector, but here are some general pointers:
- The projector should be positioned roughly perpendicular to the screen.
- The distance between the projector and the screen should be roughly equal to the throw distance of your projector (which you can find in the projectors manual).
- The projector should be centered horizontally and vertically with the screen.
Step 4: Connect your computer
Now that your projector is set up, its time to connect it to your computer. This will likely involve connecting a VGA or HDMI cable from your computer to the projector.
Step 5: Calibrate your setup
Finally, youll need to calibrate your setup to ensure that the image is crisp, clear, and properly aligned. This will likely involve adjusting the focus, zoom, and keystone correction (which corrects for image distortion caused by the projector not being perfectly perpendicular to the screen).
