How to Make a Pinhole Projector with a Shoebox: A Beginners Guide
Have you ever wondered how to safely watch a solar eclipse? Well, look no further! One of the easiest ways to view an eclipse is by creating a pinhole projector. And the good news is, you can make one right at home with an old shoebox!
The first step in making a pinhole projector is to gather your materials. You will need a shoebox, a piece of white paper, aluminum foil, tape, a pin or needle, and scissors. Once you have all your materials, follow these easy steps:
1. Cut a square hole in one end of the shoebox, leaving about an inch on all sides.
2. Cover the hole with a piece of aluminum foil, securing it with tape.
3. Using a pin or needle, poke a small hole in the center of the aluminum foil. This is your pinhole.
4. Tape the piece of white paper to the inside of the shoebox, opposite the pinhole.
5. Now youre ready to project the eclipse! Stand with your back to the sun, and hold the shoebox up to the sun, with the pinhole facing the sun. Aim the pinhole towards the white paper inside the box. You should see a small, inverted image of the sun on the paper.
Remember, never look directly at the sun without proper eye protection. Using a pinhole projector is a safe and fun way to watch an eclipse, and making one is a great DIY project for the whole family. So grab an old shoebox and get started! |
